Jewels meet monthly to discuss age/grade appropriate teen topics. During rap sessions they are empowered with factual information that supports the topic. Topics include, but are not limited to:
*Life Skills *Youth Development
*Character and Etiquette Development
*Prevention Workshops
Jewels also receive assistance with applying to colleges & universities and with applying for Financial Aid and Scholarships.
This portion of the program runs from September to May to coincide with the academic year
Jewels are taken on trips that support the topics they discuss, as well as Cultural and Recreational trips, one Saturday a month, during the academic year to allow the girls to be exposed to the culture of the Atlanta area and surrounding states.
Educational and recreational trips are taken to places such as museums, musicals, local professional sports games, etc.
Some of the field trips are Community Service oriented to allow the Jewels opportunity to give back to the communities they live in and around. We also expose the girls to different career paths by allowing them to spend time in the lives of lawyers, doctors, accountants, teachers, bankers and entrepreneurs.
Jewels who have successfully completed at least three years of mentoring and participation in the program, prepare for a Debutante Cotillion, which coincides with their Senior year of High School.
Weeks prior to High School graduation they are presented to distinguished members of the Atlanta Metro area, which includes, but is not limited to, Local Politicians, Community Leaders, Business Leaders and Clergy.
During the Cotillion,Seniors are recognized for the commitment to Ladies In Waiting by receiving a scholarship to assist with their costs for college. Amount of the scholarship varies year to year based on the number of Jewels who have completed the program. The Cotillion is held in May prior to the end of the school year.
