FAQ

Who can participate in Ladies In Waiting?

We are currently open to female residents of the following Metro Atlanta cities:

Lithia Springs, Douglasville, Mableton, Powder Springs, Austell, Hiram, Villa Rica,  and Carrollton who are in grades 8-10 at the time of enrollment. For minimum requirements, view our Program Page

How much does it cost to become a Jewel?

There is currently an application fee of $25, which may be tax deductible. Ladies In Waiting is a non profit, 501(c)3 organization.

We rely heavily on donations from the public, grants from foundations and corporations, as well as our own fundraising activities to cover other costs.

Where are the round table sessions held?

Round table mentoring sessions are being held at various sites in Douglas and South Cobb counties.

How are Jewels selected?

Anyone interested in becoming a Jewel must first complete an application. Applications are reviewed by our staff and Board of Directors. Those meeting at least the minimum qualifications will be invited to become a Jewel.

How often are round table mentoring sessions?

Round table  mentoring sessions are held a minimum of once a month at each location.

Are monetary contributions tax deductible?

We have been issued tax exempt status by the IRS. When a contribution is made, our office will supply you with our tax exempt number and a receipt. Depending on your tax status you may be able to include your donation on your taxes.

How do I become a mentor?

Any female interested in becoming a mentor is required to complete an application, which can be found here on our site.

Mentor applications are then reviewed, and background checks are completed. Invitations to become a mentor are extended to those who we believe will make a positive impact on the lives of our Jewels.

Is there training for mentors?

Yes. We offer training to mentors based on what topic will be discussed during monthly round table sessions.

How long am I expected to volunteer as a mentor?

Mentors are asked to commit to at least one academic year.  Any mentor can commit to more than the minimum.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor, but are unable to commit to the minimum, we ask that you consider volunteering in another capacity.

Do you accept in-kind donations?

Yes. If you have office equipment, or products that you believe our organization could benefit from, we would truly appreciate the donation.
