| Program Components: |
| Group Mentoring/Rap Sessions Jewels meet twice a month to discuss age/grade appropriate teen topics. During these sessions they are given information that supports the Topic of the month. A subject matter professional sits in on the sessions to ensure that what is being discussed is factual information. Topics will also include Life Skill and Etiquette training. Jewels will also receive help with applying to colleges & universities and assistance with applying for Financial Aid and Scholarships. This portion of the program runs from September to May to coincide with the academic year. |
| Field Trips Jewels are taken on trips that support the topics they discuss, as well as Cultural and Recreational trips, one Saturday a month,during the academic year to allow the girls to be exposed to the culture of the Atlanta area and surrounding states. Educational and recreational trips are taken to places such as museums, musicals, local professional sports games, etc. Some of the field trips are Community Service oriented to allow the Jewels to "give back" to the communities they live in and around. We will also expose the girls to different career paths by allowing them to spend time in the lives of lawyers, doctors, accountants, teachers, bankers and entrepreneurs. Trips will are taken to places such as: Atlanta Football Classic Atlanta Hawks Basketball Games Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthplace Fox Theatre 14th Street Playhouse CNN Studio Tour Atlanta Aquarium Tennessee Aquarium Southeast College Tours including GA, SC, NC, TN, AL, FL & VA |
| Graduation/Debutante Cotillion When Jewels have successfully completed each year of Ladies In Waiting, they prepare for their Debutante Cotillion, which coincides with their Senior year of High School. At this time they are presented to distinguished members of the Atlanta Metro area, which includes, but is not limited to, Local Politicians, Community Leaders, Business Leaders and Clergy. During the Cotillion,Seniors are recognized for the commitment to Ladies In Waiting by receiving a scholarship to assist in their costs for college. Amount of the scholarship varies year to year based on the number of Jewels who have completed the program. The Cotillion is held in May prior to the end of the school year. |
